Nail ER+ plus antifungal treatment
If you have a confirmed fungal nail infection (as diagnosed by a healthcare professional) and have been directed to use a topical (brush, paint or roll-on) antifungal product, you can use Nail ER+ alongside these treatments, and it may improve outcomes in terms of how your nails look and feel. Antifungals + Nail ER+ = a great combination. Why? Because topical antifungals ONLY target the fungus and not the health of the nail. The premise of antifungal treatment for fungal nail is that if the infection is cleared and stops damaging the nail, the nail's appearance will also improve. That's not always the case, though. In fact, topical antifungals often make the nail's appearance and condition worse because they dehydrate the nail. The irony here is that they are not nail- or skin-friendly products — they are antifungal products. Their formulation has to be based on harsh volatile organic compounds (alcohols and similar), otherwise the largely insoluble active antifungal medicines they contain won't stay in liquid form (as a true solution or even as a suspension).
Topical antifungals get a very 'bad rep' because, to deliver a 'complete cure' (as defined by clinical-trial criteria), they have to clear the fungus completely AND restore the nail to having 0% damage. This is a very high bar considering the limitations of how they are formulated. In addition to being irritants and dehydrating, they cannot effectively penetrate the nail (which is another reason why they are only recommended for mild-to-moderate fungal infections). Our previous post on the water base of Nail ER+ explains how only water and hydrophilic compounds can penetrate the nail.
Adding Nail ER+ to a fungal-nail plan alongside topical antifungals allows the nail to repair and recover — rehydrating and restoring condition and natural resilience to its structure while the antifungal does its work against the infection. This approach targets both the nail and the infection — rather than just the infection at the expense of the nail. Podiatrists use the clinical version of Tinexyl — Tinexyl PRO — alongside topical and even oral antifungal medicines in managed care plans to transform the results their patients see from antifungal treatment.
See our FAQ for more information on using Nail ER+ alongside antifungal products, and give these treatments a better chance of delivering a healthier-looking and better-feeling nail as well as getting on top of the infection. Continue to use Nail ER+ after antifungal treatment to ensure the nail's natural strength and resilience are maintained for the long term.
