Frequently Asked Questions

What types of toenail issues is Nail ER+ for?

You can use Nail ER+ to repair and restore toenails that, for whatever reason, have any one or more of the following issues: discolouration, dullness, thickness, brittleness and splitting, dryness, poor shape and growth, poor texture and ridges. Nail ER+ rapidly conditions and hydrates and, over time, effectively corrects not only the appearance and feel of nails but their structure — stronger and more resilient toenails. It's a system to repair, and also to support the growth and recovery of, healthier-looking and -feeling toenails.

You can use Nail ER+ if your toenails are damaged because of a fungal infection, trauma (including sports-related), damage from gel or acrylic nails and salon procedures. You can also use Nail ER+ if you have nail changes due to psoriasis, or if your nails are simply brittle, dull and in poor condition. Nail ER+ is unique as a repair and recovery system for toenails.

How and when should I apply Nail ER+?

It's a very simple product to apply. The detailed instructions for use are contained within each box and are available to download here.

Apply Nail ER+ to clean, dry, bare toenails in the evening and leave it to work its magic overnight. Wipe the excess product off the brush before you apply, as per the detailed instructions for use. Don't over-wet the nail. Apply Nail ER+ to every toenail, the nail edges and the surrounding skin. A little goes a long way — one brush-load of Nail ER+ should be sufficient for every toenail on one foot. Allow the product to dry on the toenails for 15–20 minutes before putting on any socks or shoes, or getting into bed.

Is Nail ER+ antifungal?

No, it's a conditioning and hydrating system for toenail repair and recovery, and is not antifungal. In restoring and improving toenail structure and barrier function — through conditioning and hydration — it corrects toenail damage and resolves the cosmetic issues and discomfort associated with fungal nail.

Can I use Nail ER+ on fungal nails?

You can use Nail ER+ on fungal nails on its own to correct nail damage, and you can also use it in conjunction with antifungal products. These will target the infection while Nail ER+ improves the nail directly. You should use Nail ER+ in the evenings on clean, dry nails that are free of any other product (as per the product insert/instructions for use), and apply any other products, including antifungals, in the morning.

When should I see results?

We don't promise miracles, and there is no instant fix for toenail damage. Nail ER+ is a scientifically developed nail repair and recovery system — a credible product you can trust.

From a month of consistent, daily application (in the evening), you should notice an improvement in the structure and texture of your toenail. Some users have reported a difference in appearance after the first application; others have reported a big difference after a week. Results will always vary, and the time it takes for significant and lasting change in the appearance and texture of your toenails will depend on the type or cause of your nail damage and the rate of growth of your nail — which is different from person to person.

The improvement in appearance you may have noticed very rapidly after starting to use Nail ER+ can also 'plateau' once your existing, damaged nail has improved as much as it can, until new, healthier-looking nail starts to grow through. Persevere and remember that consistency of application over time is key for results that will lead to better-looking and -feeling nails in the long term. Applying the product not just to your damaged nails but continuing to apply Nail ER+ to the healthier-looking new nail as it comes through will ensure its condition and resilience are maintained, and your nails don't revert to their previous state.

If you don't see the results you expect after 90 days of product use, please get in touch at [email protected] and let us know.

How long should I use Nail ER+ for?

Nail ER+ isn't a 'treatment' intended for short-term use. It's not a quick fix or a product that just covers up nail damage. As well as being an effective nail repair and recovery system, when used consistently as part of your daily routine, Nail ER+ also maintains healthier-looking and -feeling toenails in the long term.

From a month of consistent, nightly application, you should see a noticeable improvement in the appearance, structure and texture of your toenails. Consistency is key. The time it takes for significant change to the existing nail, and for healthier-looking new nail to grow through, will depend on the nature of your nail damage and your own rate of nail growth — which varies from person to person.

In general, once you see an obvious band of healthier-looking new nail growing from the base of the nail, you're in maintenance mode. Continue using the product to ensure your 'new' toenails are supported and remain in the best condition possible.

Can I use Nail ER+ on top of nail polish or gel?

Nail ER+ should be applied to bare nails, as per the instructions for use. You can, however, apply nail polish during the day for a special occasion or intermittently — just remove the polish completely in the evening and apply Nail ER+ then.

If you have gels or acrylic nails, you can also apply Nail ER+ to the base of the toenail (the cuticle end) and around the edges of the nail once there is a big enough margin of new nail growing out (e.g. 1–2 weeks after gel or acrylic application, depending on the rate of growth of your toenails).

We would, however, also recommend simply leaving toenails free of gel, acrylics or polish for a period of two months, twice a year, and applying Nail ER+ daily (in the evenings) during that time to repair and restore toenails from gel or acrylic use before re-application of any coloured products. You can then maintain the base of the toenail with Nail ER+ application as described above.

What do the ingredients in Nail ER+ do?

Nail ER+ is the result of 20 years of nail health research and has been developed by NovaBiotics, a UK-based biotechnology business. It's a credible nail care product you can trust, supported by laboratory and clinical data that demonstrate its ingredients' efficacy and safety. Nail ER+ is powered by the same TXYL polymer technology used in a clinical-strength, professional product trusted by podiatrists — Tinexyl PRO.

Water is critical to nail health and an essential part (up to 12%) of the make-up of a healthy toenail. The hard keratin polymer fibres that the nail is made from require water for the hydrogen bonds that keep them together to make the nail structure tight and strong. The proprietary TXYL polymers in Nail ER+ work with the keratin polymers and water to 'supercharge' the toenail's hydration, strength and structure, and deliver deep conditioning within the toenail.

PEG 400 is a conditioner and moisturiser; along with lactic acid, it brightens and smoothens the surface of the toenail. Lactic acid also gently sloughs away the discoloured and rough keratin at the toenail surface.

Is Nail ER+ safe to use, and is there anyone who should avoid this product?

Nail ER+'s ingredients, formulation and manufacturing processes have been approved as safe and as meeting all required quality standards by independent regulatory assessors. Nail ER+ is powerfully effective yet gentle, and contains only four ingredients plus its water base. All the ingredients in Nail ER+ are approved as safe for cosmetic use. Nail ER+ does not contain any colour, fragrance, urea, parabens, chemical preservatives or organic solvents (e.g. alcohols).

You should not use Nail ER+ if you have a known allergy to any of the ingredients. As Nail ER+ contains lactic acid, an alpha-hydroxy acid (AHA), you should also avoid exposing your toes to sunlight during periods when the product is being applied.

Please contact our technical team at [email protected] if you would like more information.

Can Nail ER+ be used if I'm pregnant or breastfeeding?

Yes, Nail ER+ can be used in pregnancy and during breastfeeding.

Is Nail ER+ suitable for children?

Nail ER+ is safe to use on children over six years of age. It should be applied by an adult and stored out of the sight and reach of children and pets.

How long does a bottle of Nail ER+ last?

Each bottle contains 5ml of Nail ER+ and should last for up to two months if the product is applied as per the instructions to every toenail.
